Tracer Gas Testing

Tracer gas is a highly sensitive leak detection method used to locate hidden water leaks that may be difficult to detect using conventional methods. A safe mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen gas is introduced into the pipework, allowing the gas to escape through even very small leaks.

Specialist detection equipment is then used to identify where the gas is escaping, helping our engineers pinpoint the exact location of the leak with minimal disruption. Tracer gas testing is particularly effective for concealed pipework, under floors, within walls and other difficult-to-access areas.

Tracer gas testing works by introducing a safe hydrogen and nitrogen gas mixture into the suspected pipework. The gas travels through the system and escapes through any leaks, even where the opening is too small to be identified using traditional methods.

A highly sensitive gas detector is then used to scan the surrounding area and identify the escaping gas. By following the highest concentration, our engineers can pinpoint the likely location of the leak with minimal disruption, helping avoid unnecessary excavation or opening-up works.
